Two Modal Action Patterns with a Continuous Temporal Distribution

چکیده
and Summary Most methods of quantitative analysis of animal behavior assume that action patterns can be unambiguously classified into discrete, exclusive categories. This is not invariably the case. The digging behavior of the Midas cichlid (Cichlasoma citrinellum), for example, exhibits two functionally distinct modalities, scoop and pi&, that intergrade continuously in form but are separable probabilistically. We present a technique for analyzing such behaviors that provides a reliable basis for formulating and verifying categories and allows a quantitative assessment of functional dissimilarity.

Spatio-temporal Logics for Continuous Dynamical Systems
We develop a multi-modal/temporal logic for the analysis of a general class of continuous dynamical systems over arbitrary time-lines. Our frames consist of a topological space together with a flow (or group action), which is a function from the product of space and time into space that satisfies the two flow laws; we further require this function to be continuous. Over Euclidean space and real...
متن کاملStatic and modal analysis of parabolic-boundary functionalized Carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates using FEM
This paper investigates the effect of different methods of carbon nanotubes distribution in a thin matrix on static and dynamic behavior of the nanocomposite. Five different symmetric patterns of distribution are considered, including four parabolic patterns and a linear one. For each pattern, the effective mechanical properties of the resultant nanocomposite are calculated using the rule of mi...
متن کاملDamage identification of structures using experimental modal analysis and continuous wavelet transform
Abstract: Modal analysis is a powerful technique for understanding the behavior and performance of structures. Modal analysis can be conducted via artificial excitation, e.g. shaker or instrument hammer excitation. Input force and output responses are measured. That is normally referred to as experimental modal analysis (EMA). EMA consists of three steps: data acquisition, system identificatio...

متن کاملFirst record of Nais elinguis Müller, 1773 (Annelida: Oligochaeta: Naididae), Spatio-temporal patterns of its population density and biomass production along two estuaries in the South Caspian Sea, Mazandaran Province, Iran
The cosmopolitan oligochaete worm, Nais elinguis, is common to fresh and brackish water habitats. This species was found while investigating the limnology of two rivers alongside the Iranian coasts and has not been reported in the Iranian freshwater fauna and Caspian Sea before. N. elinguis was collected bimonthly from Cheshmehkileh and Sardabrood estuaries using a Van Veen grab (0.03 m2) and S...
